Finally got my website going. You might even see some stuff not already on the blog!

Thanks to Stephen for all his help.

For the bottom image... I mixed in elements from Zelda, Shadow of Colossus, Mouse Guard and a bunch of other stuff... haha. If only I added some Totoros in there too...Hope it mixed well.

HIBM

Hey people,

I usually don't do non-art related posts... but here's my meager contribution to helping out an old colleague and his fiancee.

DOLLAR CAMPAIGN
One minute, one dollar, pass it on.
www.hibm.org

You can make a REAL difference with very LITTLE money and very LITTLE time. We're asking for two things: give $1 and pass this email to people you know. We're trying to raise $1,000,000 in 3 months to enable human therapeutic trials to fight HIBM, a debilitating disease. We're asking for two things:

First, go to WEBSITE (www.hibm.org) to donate $1. Second, send this email on to all your friends and family.

In the Internet age, reaching one million people in that amount of time is surely do-able. If you are interested in becoming a bigger influence in this campaign, host your own dollar collecting campaign in your community, church, workplace, among your friends and family and donate what you've collected as one donation.

HIBM (Hereditary Inclusion Body Myopathy) is a progressive and debilitating muscle-wasting disorder caused by a gene defect. It touches those between the ages of 20 and 40 and, although progression is slow, it typically leads to total disability within 10-15 years. Studies suggest that HIBM may be easier to cure than many other disorders or diseases, the only limiting factor is funds.

Many thanks for the read... new art coming soon!

Daily Exercises

Been trying to sharpen the rusty old blade lately...

When in doubt, paint Totoros.

Osaka...Kyoto...Tokyo

A horribly inaccurate sketch of Osaka Castle... I took out the modern looking elevator sitting in front of it.

A random house in Kyoto...

Quicksketch on the corner of the Tsukiji Market in Tokyo...
Really fresh Sushi!

Lunch Sketch

Hiked up the hills during lunch with Randy and Sergio for a quick paint.
The recent rains have made the ground really soggy... though the dramatic rain clouds are awesome to paint.

I've been attending some awesome workshops at Concept Design Academy last year... really should try to apply more of what I've learned.

New Year

I've been working really hard on new images for the next book, and hadn't had time to do extra stuff for the blog... Hopefully I'll have something concrete to announce soon.

Meanwhile, here's two images from BattleMilk...

Here's to wishing everyone a great 2009!

Yosemite

Whew, an update finally! I managed to go to Yosemite for the first time last week. Its so epic there its a little unreal. Like my good friend Chris says, its like walking into a matte painting...

This was the last piece I did before I left Yosemite. Bees like to stop on my fingers...

Thanks to uber painter Stephen for organizing the trip, and I got to meet the incredible Ignat too.

This was done early morning near the camp grounds... it was so cold. Trying to get into purer watercolor technique with this one... too bad I only planned out the light shapes in the mountain... totally forgot to reserve the lights when I got to the trees.. haha.

After hiking up 1000ft. from Happy Isles, we managed to reach the top of Vernal Falls. Skies were overcast when I painted this. It started snowing just after we descended. Weather reports are so unreliable...

Did this one on the last morning I was there. All the compositions look the same no? Haha... figured I should paint mountains since I was at Yosemite.

I've been really busy working on BATTLE MiLK 2 for next year! Too bad I can't post any images of that yet. It's almost impossible for me to find time to work on that, and Blog stuff besides my regular day job... hopefully I'll have more landscape paintings to post in the future...
